Message from the Clerk, Deborah Urch
On the 11th November, Westbury Town Council organised the remembrance service at the war memorial for the first time. This was after picking up the mantle from the Royal British Legion, who had done an amazing job for many years. While we received a great deal of positive feedback, there were a few issues that we need to resolve for future years. We plan to only sing the first verse of the national anthem and we will be replacing a hymn. We hope to improve the sound quality, although this might be quite a challenge. And despite ordering one service card for every two people, we did not have enough. So we will be producing more copies but also offering a digital version that people can download to their smart phones. Thank you so much for attending, you made the commemoration of 100 years from the end of the Great War a memorable event.
On Monday 10th December at 19.00 at The Laverton, our Finance Committee will be discussing the 2019/20 precept requirement. This is the money collected for Westbury Town Council as part of your council tax and allows us to pay for the assets and services we look after in the town. Your input is valuable, so if you would like to come along and tell us how you think we should be spending the money, please arrive at the Laverton at 18.50 and register for the public forum.
We are developing a new website, that we hope will offer a modern view but also give us more flexibility to share items, news and engage with the community. Is there something you would like added to our website, that would helpful to the public. For example an events calendar or a message board? Let us know by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
The Town Council is holding the much loved Christmas in Westbury on Saturday the 1st December (shockingly, it is less than two weeks away!), the High Street, Marristow Street and the Market Place will be the place to be. The funfair will be in the High Street from 11.00 and the market will commence at 15.00. There will also be an indoor market in the church hall, so lots of opportunity to buy that unique Christmas gift. This year alongside the funfair, Santa Grotto and Christmas market stalls we are doing something very different and rather special in the Market Place ahead of the light switch on at 19.00. I don’t want to give it all away, I hope to see you there. There is more information available on our website and a program will be included in the next edition of the White Horse News.
The Town Council offices will be closed from 15.00 on the 24th December and will reopen on Wednesday 2nd January 2019.
I am always keen to hear from residents and businesses in Westbury about the things affecting you. If you would like to get in touch with me, please call 01373 822232 or email email@example.com
