Change of start date.
The works were scheduled to begin on 4th April however due to the recent inclement weather causing delay on current construction schemes, the contractors are unable to begin works until Monday 9th April 2018. The advance notice boards on site will be altered to show the new date. (updated from Wiltshire Council 28.03.18)
Following requests for pedestrian improvements on Tower Hill, Westbury Community Area Transport Group (CATG) made a bid for substantive funding to deliver a pedestrian improvement scheme. This bid was successful and the scheme has been developed in conjunction with the residents of Tower Hill and Dilton Marsh Parish Council.
WHAT DOES THE SCHEME INCLUDE?
A plan of the scheme can be seen overleaf.
The scheme sees the removal of the existing traffic calming feature at the north eastern end of Tower Hill (the approach from Leigh Park) with the priority working being relocated to a coincide with a new pedestrian crossing build-out at the existing informal crossing point.
This provides a shortened traffic calming section, focussing on the area in which pedestrians are in close proximity, or within, the carriageway. In addition, it provides a shorter crossing distance for pedestrians at this point.
The scheme also introduces an on-carriageway footway, demarcated with coloured surfacing and lining. This provides a pedestrian link from the properties south of the rail bridge to the existing footway. The coloured surfacing and road markings will raise driver awareness of pedestrians along this section, providing a safer walking route, but allows over-running by the farm vehicles that require access to land adjacent to Tower Hill.
WHEN WILL THE WORKS COMMENCE AND HOW LONG WILL THEY TAKE?
Construction work is programmed to commence on Wednesday 4th April with completion by the 25th April. It will be necessary to have a road closure in place during working hours to allow the construction works to be undertaken safely. The closure will be in place on weekdays between the hours of 8am and 6pm. During this time, a signed diversion route will be in place.
Wiltshire Council would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience and co-operation whilst these works are carried out.
